Taking an ether-roll sample

There is no consensus on the best way to detect a low-level Varroa mite infestation. The ether-roll technique is a quick, relatively easy sampling method to check for the presence of mites. Brush approximately 300 bees into a large (quart-size) empty clear plastic or glass jar. Close the lid and tap the jar to settle bees to the bottom.
