American foulbrood (burning hives)

American foulbrood spores are highly-resistant to common disinfecting methods and can remain alive and virulent for more than forty years in combs and honey. Therefore, the only treatment considered to be totally effective as a permanent control of AFB is the burning of infected colonies and all contaminated equipment.
