Drone pupae removed with uncapping fork

Another technique is to examine brood for the presence of mites. Uncap and examine sealed brood, especially drone brood. Individual pupae can be removed with forceps to permit visual inspection. A faster technique is to use an uncapping fork to easily remove many drone pupae at once for close examination. A small 10x hand lens will help considerably.
