OXYTETRACYCLINE-50
HONEY BEE PREMIX
Type A Medicated Article

For control of American foul-brood caused by Bacillus larvae; and European foul-brood caused by Melissococcus pluton susceptible to Oxytetracycline when applied at the rate of 200 mg. of Oxytetracycline per colony. Follow directions below.

ACTIVE DRUG INGREDIENT
Oxytetracycline (from Oxytetracycline Quaternary) Salt (equivalent to Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride)..... 50.0 grams/lb.

INGREDIENTS
Oxytetracycline Hydrochloride, Sucrose

DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Due to the high drug concentration of this product, an intermediate mixture must be prepared for use with bees. Mix 0.4 lbs. (6.4 ounces) of OXYTETRACYCLINE-50 HONEY BEE PREMIX with 6 pounds of powdered sugar. This will provide 200 mg. Oxytetracycline per ounce of premix and will dust approximately 100 colonies.

Dusting: Apply one (1) ounce (200 mg. Oxytetracycline) of this mixture per colony. Dust should be applied on the outer parts or ends of the frames. Usually three (3) dustings at 4 to 5 day intervals are required in the spring and/or fall at least four (4) weeks before the main honey flow to prevent contamination of marketable honey.

Extender Patty: Use four (4) ounces (800 mg. Oxytetracycline) of this mixture further mixed with 165 g. (6 ounces) of vegetable shortening (Crisco or equivalent) and 330 g. (11.6 ounces) of sugar. Place the patties on the top bars of the brood nest frames.

WARNING: Oxytetracycline soluble powder should be fed early in the spring or fall and consumed by the bees before main honey flow begins to avoid contamination of production honey. Honey stored during medication periods in combs for surplus honey should be removed following final medication of the bee colony and must not be used for human food. Honey from bee colonies likely to be infected with foul-brood should not be used for preparation of medicated syrup supplements since it may be contaminated with spores of foul-brood and may result in spreading the disease. Remove this honey at least 4 weeks before main honey flow. Do not use in a manner contrary to state apiary laws and regulations. Each state has specific regulations relative to disease control and medications. Contact the appropriate official or state department of agriculture for specific inter and intra-state laws and regulations.

CAUTION: As an added precaution. It is recommended that dust mask or respirators and protective clothing be used.

STORE IN A COOL DRY PLACE.
